CO2 released into the atmosphere by incinerating diesel, gasoline or PE/PP etc, adding degradable additives to accelerate degradation or allowing them to degrade naturally takes between minutes and 10+ years respectively (all are known as CO2 generators). However, absorption of CO2 by plants to become fossil resources again takes more than 106 years.
The current imbalance between the rates of CO2 creation and absorption by the environment produces a NET release of CO2 to the Earth at alarming speed. Conventional plastics (like PE, PP, PS etc and PE with 1-3% degradable additives added) are typical examples of net CO2 generators.
The use of EnbioMat bags can substantially reduce the environmental absorption process during photosynthesis to become starch again in 1 or 2 years, giving rise to close to zero NET release of CO2 to the Earth. |
